I think of solar. I live in a sunny location with little wind. I also get some of my power from hydorelectric, but I think we have tapped most of those resources already. I also live not far from a geothermal plant that was previously shut down and has recently been reopened and is generating electriciy again.

Using solar energy to power your daily fuel needs is the newest way to save money on utility bills, reduce pollution and harm to the environment. Twenty days of sunlight can produce the same amount of energy as all of the world’s coal, oil, and natural gas combined, and this source of renewable energy has become popular in recent years as a result of concern for rising costs and environmental effects.

Solar energy does have its disadvantages, so it is important to consider both the pros and cons of utilizing solar energy before you decide to rely on it as a primary source of power. Once you become more informed, you can make a better decision on how to meet the energy needs of your home and possessions.

Solar energy can be beneficial in many ways, the first being that it is obviously very cost-effective. After investing in your solar energy equipment and installation, you will no longer have to pay for the energy that fuels your home. Because solar power reduces environmental pollution, the government has implemented a number of programs to help you purchase and set up your equipment at little cost to you. If you happen to take in more energy than you can use with your solar panels, you have the option of selling that energy to your utility company, which will reduce the amount of your remaining bills.

Solar energy is much better for the environment. It does not release carbon dioxide, mercury or sulphur dioxide into the air the way that burning fuels does, and actually works to lessen greenhouse gas emissions. It also has the ability to improve your health by reducing the amount of chemicals being released in and around your home. Solar power is clean, renewable, and dependable, and equipment usually stays in working order for decades, needing little or no maintenance.

Like any good thing, there is also a downside to using solar energy. The main complaint from most customers is the amount of money it takes to purchase a complete, effective solar energy system. The cost of these supplies has gone up in recent years due to the surge in the popularity of solar energy.

Solar energy can also be difficult to set up and utilize if you live in a crowded urban area. The amount of space needed for the panels is quite large if a reasonable amount of energy is to be conducted. Energy levels also vary according to the position of the sun, clouds, and amount of pollution in the air. Also, energy can obviously not be collected overnight, so secondary battery-powered supplies need to be kept on hand if power runs out.

Another disadvantage of solar power is that there is always the risk of the equipment being destroyed or damaged by natural causes. Setting up solar panels can be expensive and time-consuming, and in the event of a natural disaster such as a tornado, earthquake, or hail storm, exposed panels could easily be broken. It is wise to investigate the weather of your region and determine how likely it is that you will encounter this kind of situation. You can also find ways to insure your panels through a home insurance company.

Using solar energy in your home has both its advantages and disadvantages, but overall it is a great way to power your home. After installation, it provides no further cost to you, and helps to solve environmental issues such as global warming and acid rain. If the initial cost is out of your price range, consider looking into governmental assistance programs that will help cover costs. Solar energy has the potential to make your home both happier and healthier, and is worth considering as an alternative to your current energy sources.
